Music Notation- What does a jagged line mean?

Hello. First time i've seen this in sheet music. It comes after a key
change then there is this jagged line. runs from the bottom of the
bass clef notes to the top of the treble clef notes that you have to
play. Don't understand what it means?

Also, in one part it calls for a C4, E3, A3, so a 10th span in the
bass clef. Right before this is another jagged line. I can only reach
a 9th :( Is there another way to play this besides dropping a note?

Thankyou!
Hi,
the jagged line doesn't appear on the vocal treble clef. It runs from
the bottom of the bass clef set of notes to the top of the
instrumental treble clef notes for one beat. Then it appears in the
next measure running in the bass clef notes for one beat.
